Vanbrugh boys in Cyprus

ELEVEN boys, whose fathers were killed while serving in the RAF, have been spending a fortnight in Cyprus as guests of Service families in the island. The boys are from the RAF Benevolent Fund's boarding school at Vanbrugh Castle, Blackheath.

Air Marshal Sir William Coles, Controller of the Fund, said it had been the practice for some years for parties of boys to visit RAF stations in the UK and Germany but this was the first time they had gone so far afield.

The group of boys on the Cyprus visit were led by Mr. Paul McCann, former head boy at Vanbrugh Castle, whose 13-year-old brother, Peter, was also in the party.

Robin's sunshine flight

NOW preparing to board an R.A.F. sunshine flight is 13-year-old Robin Elliott, who will shortly be leaving his home at 2 Hampshire Road, Canterbury, for Cyprus.

Robin is one of 12 boys from the R.A.F. Benevolent Fund's boarding school at Vanbrugh Castle, Blackheath, who will be flying to Cyprus as guests of R.A.F. families on the island.

Air-Marshal Sir William Coles, controller of the fund, says that it has been the practice for some years for parties of boys to visit stations in this country and Germany but this would be the first time they had gone so far afield.

"The boys will live for a fortnight with individual R.A.F. families - probably at Akrotiri and at Episkopi," adds Sir William.

All the boys at Vanbrugh Castle are sons of airmen killed while serving in the R.A.F.
