Bader presents school prizes

WARTIME ACE Gp Capt Douglas Bader was guest of honour and presented the Speech Day prizes at Vanbrugh Castle, Blackheath, the RAF Benevolent Fund's residential school. The headmaster, Mr. John Corner, said that all the boys who wished to go on to senior boarding schools at the end of the present term had been accepted by those schools without exception. "A considerable achievement by the boys," he said.

Vanbrugh boys in Cyprus

ELEVEN boys, whose fathers were killed while serving in the RAF, have been spending a fortnight in Cyprus as guests of Service families in the island. The boys are from the RAF Benevolent Fund's boarding school at Vanbrugh Castle, Blackheath.

Air Marshal Sir William Coles, Controller of the Fund, said it had been the practice for some years for parties of boys to visit RAF stations in the UK and Germany but this was the first time they had gone so far afield.

The group of boys on the Cyprus visit were led by Mr. Paul McCann, former head boy at Vanbrugh Castle, whose 13-year-old brother, Peter, was also in the party.
